What we’re reading: Dino FC: The Great Kit Catastrophe by Keith Brumpton

BOY READINGWe’d hit a bit of a lull in our reading so took to the library after Toby’s football training.

I was getting a bit fed up with Horrid Henry – as charmingly witty as the books are – so I was keen to try to encourage Toby to branch out and try something new.

We stumbled upon a series called Dino FC that I’d never heard of but as football is Toby’s number one passion at the moment I thought it might help draw him back into non-Horrid Henry books.

It did and he’s opted for The Great Kit Catastrophe.

I have to admit to being a little sceptical of this series. Combining dinosaurs and football for a series sounds like some marketing concoction to appeal to certain boys of a certain age. It’s potentially a bit gimmicky for my liking.

Based on first impressions though, this is very much pitched at early readers trying to read for themselves and seems completely age appropriate. Whether I’m going to enjoy reading this to Toby as much as some of the more established titles we’ve tackled remains to be seen.
